FREE Garden Classes will be presented by the Linn County Master Gardeners (LCMG) during February at the Hiawatha and Ely Public Libraries.  No pre-registration is required, just come and join us!

Ponds and Water Features CLASS

Ponds don't have to cost a lot to set up and maintain. Larry Dawson, LCMG, will teach you how to build an economical pond, waterfall, and other water features.

Iowa's Gardens - More than Just Pretty Places CLASS

Plant this Year for Next Winter Interest CLASS

This program will show you what to plant for winter interest even when there is snow on the ground. Shrubs and trees with striking barks and branches will be featured. Many plants contain berries that stay all winter. Imagine looking out the window at the bumps in the snow allowing us the expectation of spring. Presented by LCMG Deb Walser.

Colorful Cottage Gardens CLASS

Straw Bale Gardening CLASS

Learn the history of straw bale gardening, practiced methods throughout the ages, and how to create your own straw bale garden that boasts high yields with no weeds.  Straw bale gardening is a recyclable container garden solution for vegetables, plants and flowers suitable for problems areas in the yard. Presented by Melanie Brown and Barb Wing, LCMGs.

Heavenly Hydrangeas CLASS
Thursday • February 27, 2014 • 6:30-7:30pm

Hydrangeas bloom in a variety of colors including white, blue, pink, green and red too.  Join Wil Carew, LCMG, as he discusses the how-to’s of planting and pruning. He also shares those varieties which are his personal ‘celestial’ favorites and are locally available.
