Become a Facilitator to Help Caregivers
As the population of our state ages, caregiver education has become a priority need in most communities. Consider getting a team of facilitators trained to teach Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a nationally recognized, evidence based curriculum designed to help family caregivers thrive in their role.
What is Powerful Tools for Caregivers?
It is a highly effective educational program that helps family caregivers of older adults build the skills they need to take better care of themselves as they provide care for others. Participants learn to minimize potentially negative impacts of caregiving in a six-week program emphasizing self-care and empowerment.
Iowa State University Extension is licensed to provide class leader training in Iowa so you can bring Powerful Tools for Caregivers to your community.
What do you need to do to get certified?
A two day training prepares and licenses class leaders to successfully teach the six-week Powerful Tools for Caregivers series.
Potential class leaders could be professionals or volunteers from healthcare, social service, or faith-based organizations. Class leaders are encouraged to enroll as local teams of two but also may team with another previously trained class leader to conduct community classes.
Potential class leaders should have excellent communication and organizational skills. Flexibility, openness, and a genuine interest in facilitating positive change for family caregivers are essential.
A class leader training is now scheduled for Urbandale, Iowa April 26-27. Register for this class.
