PRE-PROGRAM

TRAINING WORKSHOPS

  • Training of younger adult trainers (CD-ROM based lessons available; three hour exergaming and interactive game workshop)
     

  • Training of on-site leaders (as described above) (Option 2)
     

  • Completion of pre-assessment data by trainers (optional)

WEEK 1:

ORIENTATION WEEK

  • Completion of pre-assessment data by participants (optional)
     

  •  Instructed on use of exergaming and interactive games

WEEKS 2-7:

ON-SITE EXERGAMING
PROGRAM

  • Implementation of on-site program (60 minutes total exergaming weekly; 60 minutes weekly structured game time Days 2-5)
     

  • For the first two weeks of the on-site program participants will also take part in 30 minutes of interactive group games led by a younger adult trainer.

    • Thus, for Classes 1-5 the time will be one hour per class; for Classes 6-16 it will be 30 minutes per class. 

WEEKS 4-7:

ON-SITE OLDER ADULT 
LEADER TRAINING

  • Younger adult trainers conduct an integrated training for self-selected older adult on-site leaders (WEEKS 4-8)
     

  • On-site leaders co-lead the on-site program with the trainers (WEEK 6)
     

  • On-site leaders lead the on-site program, with the trainers available for assistance as needed (WEEK 7)
     

  • Participants receive a small gift for completing the on-site program (optional)

WEEK 8:
 

ON-SITE PROGRAM ASSESSMENT

  • Completion of post-assessment data (optional)

WEEKS 9-24:

NEWSLETTER
INTERVENTION

  • Mailing of eight bimonthly wellness newsletters

WEEK 25:
 

PROGRAM FOLLOW-UP ASSESSMENT

  • Completion of follow-up assessment data (optional)
     

  • Collection of exergaming data (optional)
