January 23, 2015

4-H volunteers from Lee County are invited to “The Heart of Belonging” training to learn how to create a safe, inclusive environment for all youth. Volunteers will learn how to guide youth in developing a list of club or group expectations that accommodate all members, learn how to support youth with special needs, and learn where to find resources to help them in their role as caring adults.

4-H members in grades 4-8 are invited to attend an interactive day full of learning about different aspects of Agronomy including weeds, seeds, plants, and industry.

Entrepreneurs will have one last chance to compete this winter for the opportunity to win up to $5000 for their business startup or expansion through the 2015 Lee County Business Plan Competition. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has extended the deadline for the competition to January 30, 2015 in hopes that more entrepreneurs will apply.

Lee County will offer four Continuing Instructional Courses (CIC) this Spring for Commercial Pesticide Applicators. These programs will be shown across Iowa through the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP).

Our very own Busy Workers and Lucky Clovers 4-H Clubs teamed up with the confirmation students of St. James of St. Paul, St. John's of Houghton, St. Mary's of West Point, and St. Bonifice of Farmington have been busy raising money for a cause. The groups chose to raise funds for Heifer International, a charity dedicated to ending hunger and poverty through sustainable agriculture.
