Scales and Tails Winter Day Camp

Keokuk County Extension and Outreach hosted a Scales and Tails winter animal science day camp on December 30 &31 at the Keokuk County Extension Office in Sigourney.
Children had fun learning with hands on activities while exploring the wild world of amphibians and reptiles.  Campers learned why snakes shed their skin, how tadpoles change into frogs, and had special guests visit from the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines.  Campers were able to touch and feel the amphibians and reptiles and ask questions.  A Goffer Tortoise, American Alligator, Ball Python, and a Tiger Salamander traveled from Blank Park Zoo to join the campers.  Dylan Renner, a camper also brought his own tadpoles for the other campers to see how a tadpole turns into a frog.
For more information about upcoming camps and youth programing, please contact Michele Sieren at the Keokuk County Extension and Outreach.
