Why collect aluminum can tabs?
  • This is a fun no-cost community service activity for youth and families.
  • It’s a great way to recycle aluminum to benefit others!
  • Tabs from beverages, pet food cans, soup and other products can be collected!
  • Tabs are delivered to the Ronald McDonald House; they sell the tabs collected by many organizations.
  • 2012 Johnson County 4-H collection was 231.1 pounds.
  • At approximately 90 cents a pound we donated tabs worth approximately $207.99.

What can you do?
  • Encourage families to collect tabs all year.
  • Collection containers can be placed in work break rooms, school lounges, etc.
  • Some clubs collect them at each meeting and offer prizes to members.
  • Other clubs have families keep them at home and bring them directly to the fair.
  • Placing tabs in zip lock bags helps keep tabs lean and easy to find.
  • Bring them to the fair and place them in the box with your clubs name!
  • It is suggested that you write your clubs initials or name on each bag.

Why is it called the Pull Tab Challenge?
  • We challenge each club to participate in the fun event.
  • In 2012, 13 out of 22 Johnson County 4-H clubs participated.
  • We challenge 100% club participation in 2013.
  • Who will bring home the coveted “Traveling Trophy” next year?
