Community Foundation of Johnson County Supports Nutrition Education
Johnson County Extension & Outreach received a CFJC grant for $2500 to support the nutrition education program offered in Johnson County.  The Pick A Better Snack program is delivered by Melissa Mandernach and Carol Larsen with leadership provided by Rachel Wall.  Pick A Better Snack (PABS) is a school-based nutrition education program for grades K-6. An eight-week curriculum, led by an experienced nutrition educator, introduces kids to fruits and vegetables in a fun and encouraging group environment.   Johnson County Extension & Outreach impacts 3500 children each year in over 140 classrooms with PABS. Students who complete the PABS curriculum learn the importance of fruit and vegetable consumption for overall well-being. More importantly, they demonstrate an increased likelihood to incorporate fruits and vegetables into their diets and show more enthusiasm for trying new, healthful foods.  Pictured (l-r)  Connie Brinton and Connie Brinton, Extension Council chair; Rachel Wall, Nutrition & Health Specialist, and Steve Atkins, memberof the CFJC Board of Directors.
