Pressure Canner Testing (Posted on 4/25/2008)
Pressure canners with a dial-type pressure gauge should be tested each year for accuracy. Jan Temple, ISU Extension Nutrition and Health Field Specialist, will be offering testing of dial gauge pressure canners. This service will be offered during the summer of 2008. There will be a testing fee of $3 per lid. 
2008 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference (Posted on 4/25/2008)
“Ignite the Flame” is the theme for the 2008 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, Animal Science ROUNDUP, and CSI: Crops. It is anticipated that over 1,000 youth will attend the conference to be held June 24-26.

All 4-H & FFA exhibitors showing in Beef, Dairy Cattle, Dairy Goats, Meat Goats, Poultry, Rabbit, Sheep, and Swine must be FSQA certified in order to show at the Johnson County Fair.

Average Value of Iowa Farmland Tops $3,900 an Acre in 2007 Survey (Posted on 2/28/2008)
The average value of an acre of farmland in Iowa increased by just over $700 during the past year, to an all-time high of $3,908, according to an annual survey conducted by Iowa State University (ISU) Extension. Johnson County 2007 land values at $4,579 per acre.

Johnson County State Fair Results (Posted on 8/13/2007)
Johnson County 4-H youth showed livestock during the first week of the Iowa State Fair. "Youth gain so many positive skills by exhibiting livestock," Mike Anderson, 4-H agriculture superintendent said. "The dedication, responsibility, decision-making and leadership they develop can prepare them for careers that utilize these skills." Also included are the results of the horticulture and static exhibits.
