2012 Winter Gardening Fair

Linn County Master Gardeners will present the 2012 Winter Gardening Fair on February 18th at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A wide variety of classes and workshops will be offered from lawn care, theme gardens, yard art and ponds to mulch, daylilies, backyard wildlife, ornamental grasses and dealing with pests. Classes are filling fast, register today!

Johnson County Extension Building Campaign

Construction has been completed on the new 12,000 square foot office and education center for the Johnson County Extension Service. To help fund this project Johnson County Extension has launched a building campaign to underwrite the cost of a portion of the facility. The education and conference center houses over thirty Iowa State University and Johnson County Extension staff along with meeting rooms to round out the facility.

The Johnson County Master Gardeners have opened their seasonal "Hort Line" and are ready to take your home horticulture questions. The Hort Line is available every Monday and Thursday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and can be reached by calling the Johnson County Extension Office at 319-337-2145.

Average Value of Iowa Farmland Reaches $5,064 in 2010

The average value of an acre of farmland in Iowa increased 15.9 percent in 2010, according to an annual survey conducted by Iowa State University Extension. Mike Duffy, ISU Extension economist who conducts the survey, said the statewide average land value as of Nov. 1 this year was $5, 064 an acre, up $693 per acre from 2009.
