Grazing Lands and the Environment

An Iowa grazing conference will be held August 25 and 26 at the Honey Creek Conference Center near Lake Rathbun in SE Iowa. Dr. Fred Provenza with the Department of Wildland Resources at Utah State University will be the “kick off” speaker for the conference. Dr. Provenza will also close the conference on the 26th. Other speakers will be Dr. Rob Kallenbach from the University of Missouri and two speakers from the Noble Foundation in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
Tri-State Local Food Conference

Whether you are in local food production, consumption or food system development, you’ll find sessions of interest to you. We’ll hear from innovative local food producers making a livelihood growing local food in Iowa, Illinois and Missouri. The conference will be held at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center in Fairfield, Iowa on Friday, September 4th.
2009 Iowa Research Farm Field days

Iowa State has research and demonstration farms throughout the state because soil, geography, climate and agricultural enterprises vary considerably across the state. Research at the farms provides solutions to problems in specific areas. To learn more attend one of the research farm field days!

Entries sought in non-traditional Quilt Block Competition

Quilt block designs are being sought to represent Johnson County in an outdoor mural at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The winning designs from each of Iowa’s 99 counties will be constructed in tile on the exterior of the new Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center, a multi-use facility scheduled to open in 2010. Design entries must be submitted by September 18, 2009.
