Quicken 98 is Not Compatible with Vista

The following is an email message sent to all county and area staff on February 22, 2007 by Floyd Davenport, Information Technology Officer:

As you plan to purchase new computers which might run the new Windows Vista operating system or if you plan to upgrade existing systems to Vista, you need to consider software compatibility.

This message is to alert you to the fact that Quicken 98 is not compatible with Vista.  This should not come as a surprise given the age of Quicken 98 and that Intuit, who developed the software, hasn’t supported it for three years.

Only the newest version, Quicken 2007, is compatible with Vista.  All other versions have known problems including problems with file name conventions, user access controls, windows registry and DVD capabilities.

If you need to continue to use Quicken 98 as you transition to Cougar Mountain Fund Suite, you will need to use it on a computer running Windows XP.

Note: Office 2007 will run on both Windows XP and Vista, so you do not need to worry about Office compatibility.

If you have questions regarding Quicken compatibility or Vista, contact the Extension IT Computer Support Hotline (515.294.1725 or eithotline@iastate.edu).
