Windows Mobile Smartphone Setup

The following assumes you've purchased a voice/data plan with your phone.

  1. Activate your phone for voice data according to the instructions you receive from your phone provider.  Check that you have data access by opening a web browser.  You should be able to load web pages.
  2. Select the Start menu
  3. Select Settings
  4. Select Active Sync
  5. Select Menu
  6. Select Configure Server
  7. For Server Address, enter: exchange.iastate.edu
  8. Check 'This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection'
  9. Click Next
  10. Enter your Net-ID, password, and domain (iastate)
  11. Check Save Password
  12. Click Next
  13. Select the items you want to sync (e-mail, calendar, contacts, tasks)
  14. Click Finish
Note: It may take several minutes for items to sync especially if you have a large number of contacts or current e-mail.

In general, you will not need to connect directly to your computer to sync your PDA (with wireless) or smartphone (with data plan and/or wireless).  If you do sync with your computer (for example, to exchange documents), refer to the instructions available at ISU's Information Technology Services
