How do I get an ISU Net-ID?

An ISU ID card number is required to obtain an ISU Network-ID. University-paid employees should receive this number automatically and may register online for a Net-ID. All others should contact Deb Pospisil in the Extension Finance office (515.294.3684) for assistance.

What can I access with my Net-ID?

Your Net-ID can be used to:
  • Log in to your computer
  • Send mail and schedule meetings
  • Share files with staff in your office
  • Access staff-only Extension web sites
  • Register a computer for network access
  • Author Extension web sites
  • Access campus services such as AccessPlus, WebCT and e-Library

How do I log in?

Your computer will boot to a 'Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to log in' screen. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del at the same time, enter your Net-ID and password and press OK.

Note: Your computer must be wired to the network in order for you to be able to log in the first time. If you encounter problems ensure you are logging on to 'IASTATE' and not the local computer.

How do I set up my mail?

  • Via phone - the Extension IT Support Hotline is available Monday through Friday, 8am to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm, at 515.294.1725
  • Via email - issues that are not time-sensitive can be sent to eithotline@iastate.edu

What is the administrator password for my computer?

Each computer owner is responsible for their own administrator password. It is critical that you do not lose or forget this password, because it is required to install software and make configuration changes to your computer. Extension IT does not know and cannot tell you the administrator password. However, EIT Support can reset the administrator password provided the computer is functioning on the network properly. Please contact the EIT Support Hotline for assistance (515.294.1725).
