invites applications from organizations interested in initiating or
expanding the Nature of Learning program in their communities. Nature
of Learning, the National Wildlife Refuge System's community-based environmental
education initiative, seeks to use National Wildlife Refuges as outdoor
classrooms to promote a greater understanding of local conservation
issues; encourage an interdisciplinary approach to learning that seeks
to enhance student academic achieve-ment; utilize field experiences
and student-led steward-ship projects to connect classroom lessons to
real-world issues; and foster partnerships among local schools, community
groups, natural resource professionals, and local businesses. Grants
of up to $5,000 will be awarded on a competitive basis to support start-up
expenses associated with new programs. In addition, grants of up to
$3,000 will be awarded on a competitive basis to provide continued support
to existing Nature of Learning programs. Schools or nonprofit organizations,
including "Friends" groups, cooperative and interpretive associations,
Audubon chapters, conservation organizations, and nature centers are
eligible to apply for funding. Programs must involve a partnership among
a local school(s), community group (e.g., Refuge Support Group), and

Online awards up to $7500 each to 54 groups of educators in a new program
that supports interactive technology use in K-12 classrooms across the
country. Besides the cash outlays, the Interactive Education Initiative
provides awardees with technical assistance, curriculum assistance,

and preserve the environment through education or direct service. The
Animal Protection program supports the elimination of inhumane laboratory

AND INTEREST: To be eligible you must be in the current graduating class
or have graduated or completed a program within the last ten years from
an echoing green participating undergraduate university or college,

forests, botanical gardens, environmental justice, outdoor education,

with sustainability, replicability, and potential for long-term environmental
impact. Interest include: energy efficiency and conservation, environmental

water quality issues, public land resource conservation, and opposition

AND INTEREST: The EPA supports projects which design, demonstrate or
disseminate environmental education practices, methods, or techniques. NAME: Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, Inc. PROGRAMS
AND INTEREST: The foundations special interest include: ecosystems and
habitat preservation, pollution prevention and reduction, biodiversity/species
conservation, energy conservation, population issues/family planning,
enlightened environmental policy through education and communication. AND INTEREST: Project Learning Tree's community action and service learning
prgram, provides small grants to PLT trained educators and their students
to implement projects in their communities. PLT educators in both formal
and nonformal settings are eligible to apply. Project should address
an environmental issue and involve students in hands-on community action.
Students can be from pre-school to high school age. The program also
encourages participants to form partnerships with local groups and businesses
to help implement and sustain their efforts. Grant projects range from NAME: The National Environmental Education & Training Foundation Inc. PROGRAMS

training projects related to health and drinking water projects (2)
retaining a focus on youth particularly environmental education projects
that focus on higher grade levels and go beyond the classroom (3) supporting
environmental education projects that leverage resources, bring focus
to the field, and empower citizens to make informed decisions on environmental
issues. Past grants supported water resources, toxics and environmental

AND INTEREST: Conservation Education Initiatives: Supports educational
projects about fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats. Primary target
audiences are K-12 teachers and students, institutions of higher learning,

AND INTEREST: The foundations goal is to prevent irreversible damage
to the environment, support government, private, and voluntary actions
that will produce a sustainable environment, and foster a population
of environmentally informed citizens. Their interest include: biological
and cultural diversity, energy and transportation, and restoring the
environment in urban and suburban areas. http://www.surdna.org. NAME: Toyota USA Foundation PROGRAMS
AND INTEREST: Past grants included support for environmental education
for grade school students. Grants were awarded to start the French Creek
Project in Pennsylvania. This project is an environmental program for
high school students and their teachers involving the preservation of
an historic waterway. In addition, support was given to the Brooklyn
Botanical Gardens to produce mobile active learning centers on different
