March 24, 2015. Young farmers are invited to a Beginning Farmer Workshop hosted by the USDA Farm Service Agency, the Iowa Agriculture Development Division and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach on March 24 at the IHCC- Bioprocessing Center located near Cargill in Eddyville, IA. Loan programs, young farmer tax incentives and other financial considerations will be discussed. For more information and to register see the flyer.
March 26, 2015. Northwest Iowa Young Farmers Meeting at ISUEO Sioux County, Orange City. Guest speaker is Dr. Chad Hart. No charge, meal included. Register by March 23 to Janelle Johnson or call 712-546-7835.

January 27, 2015. The South Central group will have a gathering on Tuesday, at 6 p.m to be held at the Clarke County Development Corporation, 115 East Washington Street, Osceola, IA 50213. A free meal is included. More meeting details coming soon.
December 23, 2014. The Eastern Iowa group met along with the Jones County Cattle Producers at the Jones County Extension office. There was a discussion of winter feeding of beef cows led by Denise Schwab, ISUEO and heifer selection and development led by Dr. Cole Burrack, Monticello Vet Clinic.
September 25, 2014. A SE Iowa BYLPN group met September 25, 2014 for a beef facilities tour. The group toured three southern Iowa farms and had dinner at the Marion County Extension Office. See the program brochure for more information.
August 28 & 29, 2014. Young Dairy Producer Peer Groups to start up in NE Iowa. Two sites are being planned. Thursday, Aug. 28 at the Allamakee County Extension Office, 21 Allamakee Street, Waukon; and Friday, Aug. 29 at the Bremer County Extension Office, 720 7th Ave SW, Tripoli. Both sessions will be held from 10 AM - Noon. Iowa dairy farmers say they prefer to receive information from other farmers when it comes to learning about the business and running a dairy farm. Young Dairy Producer Peer Groups allow new and fellow young producers to gather together to discuss topics of interest within the group to provide farmer to farmer learning and interaction. The first session will include topics surrounding “What is it costing to raise my heifers and do I really need to raise them all?” With costs of raising heifers higher than their current market value if sold, precision management is needed as there are many ways to add value to these heifers before they join the milking string. June 23, 2014. The SE Iowa group met at the Marion County Extension Office and discussed topics of livestock housing options and cash flow, beginning farmer loan programs and the Farm Bill.
April 9, 2014. A new group will be gathering in Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday, April 9. The meeting begins with supper at 6:00 PM at the Henry County Extension Office. Charles Brown and Ryan Drollette, Extension farm management specialists will be discussing the Agricultural Act of 2014 and its implications for farmers. April 8, 2014. A new group will gather at the Palo Alto County Extension office on April 8. The meeting begins with a tour of Skoglund Meats and Locker in West Bend. Meet at the Palo Alto County Extension office in Emmetsburg at 4:30 PM to car-pool to West Bend, or join the group at 5:00 in West Bend. At 6:00 PM a free meal will be at the Palo Alto County Extension office followed by a Beginning and Young Livestock Producer resources and issues discussion facilitated by Beth Doran, Dave Stender and Colin Johnson. December 5, 2013. SC IA BYLPN group is having a kick-off gathering on December 5 at 6:00 pm. The event will be held at the Clarke County Fairgrounds near Osceola. There will be a meal, with discussion and Q&A with a panel of successful livestock producers from the region. Clarke County Cattlemen are co-sponsoring the event. August 24, 2013. Kickoff gathering featuring a cattle facilities tour, regional cover crop considerations and beginning farmer issues discussion. No charge for event, including social time and dinner. Meet at Extension office in Albia to carpool to Tim Kaldenberg farm. June 22, 2013. The SW IA Cow/Calf Group is planning their 2nd meeting on the Potter farm near Griswold. Discussion will be centered around grazing strategies with a potluck dinner to follow. See the flyer
June 26, 2013. Iowa State University Extension and several partners are initiating a young livestock producer group in North Central Iowa. A kick-off event will be held Wednesday, June 26, at 6 p.m. at the Hancock County Extension office in Garner, 327 West 8th Street. Read the news release. See the event flyer.

January 16-17, 2015. The Beginning Farmer Center will holds it’s Returning To The Farm seminar, a 4 day seminar for farm family business owners to develop a farm business succession/transition plan. The 2015 sessions will be held January 16-17, 2015 and February 13-14, 2015 at the Gateway Center in Ames, IA. All of these sessions are intended for farm families bringing the next generation back to the farm to live and work. January 22-24, 2015. Practical Farmers of Iowa will hold their 2015 Annual Conference Mapping Our Future on January 22-24, 2015. Sessions include information of farm transitions and young farmer entrepreneurship. For more details is the conference brochure.
January 23, 2015. The Coalition to Support Iowa Farmers (CSIF) will hold their 2015 Farming for the Future Conference, themed The Risk and Reward of Livestock Production, on January 23. The event will be held at the Quality Inn and Suites in Ames from 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Check out the agenda and reserve your seat at www.supportfarmers.com/conference. January 30-31, 2015. The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation will hold their annual Young Farmers Conference on January 30-31, 2015.
