Iowa Learning Farms hosts field day near Bloomfield August 6

Ames, Iowa—Iowa Learning Farms, along with Practical Farmers of Iowa, will host a field day on Tuesday, Aug. 6, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The field day will focus on using cover crops to build soil health and reduce erosion.

The field day will be held at the Southern Iowa Electric Cooperative, 22458 Highway 2, southeast of Bloomfield. Speaking at the event will be Washington County cover crop farmer Steve Berger, who has been using cover crops on most of his corn-soybean acres for some time. He is also an avid no-tiller; his family has been no-tilling for over 30 years. Also speaking is Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist Mark Carlton, and Sarah Carlson, Midwest Cover Crops Research Coordinator.

The field day includes a complimentary lunch. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

The Southern Iowa Electric Co-op is located approximately 2 miles southeast of Bloomfield on Highway 2.
