ILF farmer partner Dean Tiefenthaler has been growing corn and soybeans on his farm near Breda for the past 45 years. About 15 years ago he began experimenting with minimum till, strip-till and cover crops as a way to conserve soil and lessen the damage of wind and water erosion on his farm.
Tiefenthaler and his wife, Debra, have seven children. Stepson, Ryan Woerdehoff, helps on the farm. Tiefenthaler is involved in his church and Community Club.
Building a Culture of Conservation: “Preserving the land and water quality is very important now and our future families.”
Dean talks to attendees at an Iowa Learning Farms strip-till field day held on Dean's farm in June 2012.
