Eric Boehm

Eric and Cindy Boehm have been farming since 1975 and have been applying conservation practices for a number of years and is an “ongoing process” says Eric. They are adding cover crops this year to some of their acres. Other conservation efforts include establishing prairie and reconstructing a wetland. The streambank stabilization of Brush Creek, which flows through his property, was initially completed in the mid-1990s and has been repaired or redone several times since then due to flooding.

“We take on a major project every few years and then work on maintenance in between,” said Boehm. “The work here is never done. We will continue with tree planting and timber stand improvement.”

Eric and Cindy Boehm are corn-soybean farmers and have been ILF partners since 2009. Eric was featured on the Iowa Motion Picture Association award-winning video “Troubled Waters.”

On September 28, 2012, the Boehms received the Iowa Tree Farmer of the Year award. The award is from the American Forest Foundation Iowa Tree Farm System. The recipient is nominated by their district forester and the nominee must have shown outstanding work and dedication to the improvement of their tree farm. The Iowa Tree Farmer award also takes into account the bigger picture: practices that have put in place to promote tree health and growth, control erosion, clean water, preserve historic, cultural or unique sites. The Boehms certainly fit the criteria.
