NEW MASTER GARDENERS

A new session of the popular Master Gardener program will begin on January 19, 2010.  The program will be held at the Ida County Extension Office every Tuesday evening for seven weeks from 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM through March 2, 2010, and will include a Saturday field trip to Iowa State University in February!

Join the 30 certified Ida County Master Gardeners!

Master Gardeners are members of the local community who take an active interest in growing flowers, vegetables, fruits, shrubs, trees and lawns.  Their commitment to learning and sharing what they learn with others really sets them apart.

Participants attended 40 hours of class time taught by Iowa State University Extension staff and specialists in topics ranging from lawn care, flower and vegetable gardening, ornamental trees and shrubs, fruit crops, and houseplants to insect, disease, and weed control, soil and plant nutrition, and pesticide safety.  These trainees then volunteer a minimum of 40 hours of service to the community by answering requests for gardening information, staffing displays, speaking to local groups, working with all ages from youth to the elderly, and judging and assisting with the Ida County Fair.

The cost of the program is $125/person.  The registration cost includes a workbook and resource guide filled with horticultural information.  Registrations are due by January 4, 2010.  Late registrations are accepted with a $25 late fee through January 15, 2010.
