Contact AnswerLine by Phone, Web, Facebook, Twitter

AMES, Iowa – For answers to just about any home and family question, families have been calling AnswerLine, the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach telephone hotline for more than 30 years. With a recently updated website, www.extension.iastate.edu/families/answerline, and a new Facebook page and Twitter account, AnswerLine now has even more ways to tackle whatever questions Iowans and other AnswerLine users may have.

AnswerLine“There is no question that is too outrageous or foolish,” AnswerLine Coordinator Liz Meimann said. “We answer questions on any topic. If we can’t be the last call a person makes, we want to be the second-to-last call. We direct our callers to the right source.”

AnswerLine’s professional consumer and family scientists answer questions about child development, cleaning, nutrition, textiles and much more, said Meimann. The hotline, 800-262-3804, answers approximately 19,000 calls every year from Iowans as well as callers from Minnesota and South Dakota. The hotline is answered year around, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 -4 p.m.

“When you contact AnswerLine, you are reaching a real human being with safe, research-based information, and not a recording,” said Meimann.

This spring, the hotline added two social media platforms, along with a new logo. AnswerLine is posting answers to frequently asked questions on its Facebook pageand Twitter account.

Hi Brianna, I do not believe

Hi Brianna,

I do not believe this recipe will be permissible. Most recipes of this nature are refrigerator/freezer jams which are not allowed at county/state fairs. Always use a recipe and process from an approved source - such as university extension publications, USDA canning guide, or Ball Blue Book (1994 or later).

I would like to make

I would like to make Blueberry, Rhubarb jam for the county fair this year. The recipe calls for 1 can of blueberry pie filling. Is that permissible? Thank you! Brianna
