Campbell Named STEM Hub Manager at Iowa State University
AMES, Iowa — Lynne Campbell of Grimes will become the first STEM hub manager for the North Central STEM Hub at Iowa State University beginning Sept. 4. As hub manager, Campbell will give leadership to increasing opportunities for student achievement in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and creating a stronger STEM workforce through the hub network of public-private partnerships.
“Lynne is uniquely qualified for the STEM hub at Iowa State University,” said Cathann Kress, Iowa State University Vice President for Extension and Outreach and lead administrator for the NC Region STEM hub. “She has the expertise and experiences in K-12 education and working with multiple partners that match our expectations for this program. She will play a vital role in the evolving partnership between ISU K-12 youth outreach, our 4-H youth development program, and the new Iowa State University School of Education, with benefits beyond the North Central Hub.”
Campbell most recently has served as a science consultant in Area Education Agency 267. She brings experience in STEM education policy, best practices in STEM instruction and familiarity with Iowa Core implementation to this position. Campbell earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Mount Mercy College, master of education in curriculum and instruction from Drake University, and administrative endorsement from the Iowa Principal Leadership Academy.
Iowa State University is one of six Iowa STEM hubs selected by the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council in May. Each STEM network hub will work with business, education institutions, non-profit groups and others in their region in a way that best fits local needs, interests and resources. The hubs will provide more equitable statewide access to outstanding Iowa STEM education programs.
The six Iowa STEM hubs are:
• North Central – Iowa State University
• Northeast – University of Northern Iowa
• Northwest – Iowa Lakes Community College
• South Central – Drake University
• Southeast – University of Iowa & Kirkwood Community College
• Southwest – Southwestern Community College
The state of Iowa appropriated funding for the establishment of regional STEM hubs across the state. The funding is supported by a budget as set annually and reviewed by the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council and the Regional Advisory Council.
