Child Nutrition: For Families
The prevalence of overweight among American youth has become an epidemic. The number of overweight children (ages 6-11) has almost quadrupled in the past four decades and for adolescents (12-19) has tripled. This series is designed to help parents, communities, and childcare providers address these topics.
Families find it challenging to choose and prepare healthy foods within a limited budget. The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), Family Nutrition Program (FNP), and Loving Your Family-IA help families learn to make informed choices about low-cost, nutritious foods; to better manage family finances; and to become more self-sufficient.
