Chapter One: Hiring Procedures

Hiring Procedures

A job announcement is published in at least one newspaper for a minimum of one week. The Iowa Work Force Development Office is notified.  On line postings, and posting on the County Extension WEB page is also appropriate.

A standardized form is used for accepting job applications. Requesting resumes and cover letters are also acceptable. Basic skills testing may be done to determine if the applicant has the required job skills. The Iowa Work Force Development Office can do testing.

The Council representative(s) (perhaps the Personnel Committee) or designee(s), if desired, select and interview applicants. The most qualified applicant is presented to the council for approval.

Child Protection and Safety Policy

All staff hired in the county that are involved with Youth and 4-H will have a background check conducted.  The ISU Extension Human Resources Office will no longer be processing the record checks on County Paid Staff.  ISU Staff will complete this process prior to their hire approval which is now required through the background check on all ISU hired staff.
