Howard County 4-H & Youth Committee Members

Quote from Don Anderson: 4-H have very important activities for my kids to be in and I’m a 4-H & Youth Committee member so I stay involved in touch with what the girls are doing.

What a great season this team has had. Players participate in team meetings held bi-monthly, 4-H Awards Program, 4-H Spring Fair, 4-H Record Keeping and the Mighty Howard County Fair.  Four new players have been added to their roster in the past year.

The team also serves as the governing body of the 4-H program, supports educational programming and contributes to the financial needs to ensure all youth have opportunity to participate.

The following youth and adults make up the starting line-up!

Adult members are: Toni Friedrich, Marge Dohlman, Melissa Schatz, Peggy Hovey, Nate Church, Geri Tlusty, Keith Klimesh, Don Anderson, Becky Trautsch, Cindi Grover and Gary Sovereign.

Youth representatives are: Carmen Dohlman, Chandra Weinacht, Maddi Friedrich, Karn Anderson and Eric Schmitt.

4-H Challenges Youth to Leadership

County 4-H Council members were challenged to 4-H Leadership projects for the 2007 4-H year. Kendal Quandahl and Maddi Friedrich teamed up to lead a project in the Horse area. Kendal and Maddi contacted the Cresco Saddle Club members to receive permission to make improvements at the Cresco Saddle Club Arena. These 4-H’ers worked with several adults through their leadership project. Linda Quandahl served as the adult partner for the project.

Kendal and Maddi held a bake sale, contacted local community groups and wrote a grant to receive seed dollars to start their project.

The plans for the project included building five benches, creating a campfire area and landscaping the Cresco Saddle Club sign. Kendal and Maddi scheduled two work days and organized 4-H members and adults to help. Weather played a factor due to the timeline, but many hands made light work in the end and the project is enjoyed by all.
