4-H Awards Program…Unmasking Your Opportunities!
The Howard County 4-H Awards program was held on November 3rd at the Cresco Movie Theater. Many Howard County 4-H members, parents and friends were in attendance. After the awards program the 4-Hers were treated to pop, popcorn and an exclusive showing of the brand new animated hit, “Free Birds.” Abby Kennon opened the program with the welcome and Pledge of Allegiance. Council members were Andrea Wilson, Tessa Anderson, Lindsey Anderson, Rachel Stika, Savannah Roberts, Emi Frohn, Mark Farlinger, Rachel Bowser, Abby Huhe, Katie Huhe, Skye Meinecke, Christofer Lipa, Tiffany Weinacht, Abby Kennon and Kelly Dietzenbach.
The Top 4-H Junior Record Book winners were Josie Gansen, Nathan Malven, Alexa Houser, Abby Marr, Adanna Warnke, Zeke Church.
The Top 4-H Intermediate Record Book winners were Emily Roberts, Karissa Stika and Cassy Kennon.
The Top 4-H Senior Record Book winners were Jason Malven, George Laub, Rachel Stika, Rachel Bowser, Trevor Malven, Mark Farlinger and Abby Kennon.
Receiving 4-H Project Awards were Tessa Anderson, Beef; Taylor Haskovec, Beef and Photography; Cassy Kennon, Citizenship, Horse and Entomology; Jason Malven, Dairy; Trevor Malven, Dairy and Photography; Sabrina Andera, Food & Nutrition and Home Improvement; Susie Irvin, Food & Nutrition; Katie Huhe, Food & Nutrition and Home Improvement; Karissa Stika, Food & Nutrition and Photography; Emily Roberts, Visual Arts and Photography; Abby Kennon, Photography; Allison Martinek, Photography.
Senior Achievement Awards were presented to several 4-Hers. The Achievement in 4-H Experience Award was presented to Abby Huhe and Rachel Stika. The Achievement in Citizenship Award was presented to Rachel Stika, Sabrina Andera and Abby Kennon. The Award for Achievement in Leadership went to Rachel Stika. The “I Dare You” Award which is given to a person that demonstrates personal integrity and motivation for leadership was awarded to Abby Huhe. The AK-SAR-BEN Award is presented for outstanding leadership in a variety of 4-H activities, this year the award went to Abby Kennon. Finally, the Awards Trip to the State 4-H Conference on the Iowa State campus was presented to Sabrina Andera.
The Meritorious Friend of Iowa 4-H Award is given to individuals or businesses who have given their time, talents and resources for the benefit of the 4-H members and to our county 4-H program. This year, the Cresco Firefighters were awarded with this honor.
The Honorary 4-H Award is given to an individual or business who has dedicated themselves to the 4-H program and supporting youth. The 2013 Honorary 4-H award recipients were the Riceville Fire Fighters.
