Avain Flu Resource

Avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, is a viral disease that infects almost all species of birds. Infected birds can pass the virus to some other animals and humans.

Since December 2003, the H5N1 avian influenza virus has spread through Asia, Europe and six African countries. The H5N1 virus is not present in the United States and there is no human influenza pandemic in the world at this time.
