4-H Field Trip to 132nd Fighter Wing Air National Guard in Des Moines

On April 20, 4-H members and parents can see F16 fighter jets up close, learn about STEM skills required to fly and maintain aircraft, discover what it feels like to be in a cockpit, take a tour of the air base and learn about careers in the Air National Guard during a field trip to the 132nd Fighter Wing Air National Guard in Des Moines.  

 

This experience is part of the PEERS (Partnership for Engineering Educational Resources for Schools) program through the Governor's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Scale Up Initiative for which our region received funding. The goal is to provide youth and parents an opportunity to learn about the interesting and rewarding skills and careers in STEM.

To participate, complete registration flier by April 11. An email with final details will be sent to registrants prior to the event.
   
When: Saturday, April 20, 2013        8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (includes travel time)

Who:   4-H members and parents from Boone, Story, Marshall, and Hardin Counties (Everyone 16 and older must bring photo ID day of tour.)

Transportation: Must ride bus. Meet at United Community School at 8:00 a.m. to board bus (School is located in Boone County at U Ave and US-30 between Ames and Boone)

Cost:   $10/person (lunch provided), funded in part by the PEERS STEM Scale Up Initiative. See payment instructions on registration form.

Registration requirements:  Security clearance is required because the tour is on a military base.  All participants must provide full name (first, MI, last) and date of birth prior to the tour.  Adults also need social security number.  Adults born in another state must state such on the registration form and provide driver's license number.  The day of the tour, everyone 16 and older must bring photo ID.
