How do I join the 4-H Shootings Sports program?
You may contact one of our local 4-H club leaders directly, contact the Hamilton County ISU Extension Office at 515-832-9597. or you can e-mail one of the following:
Cheryll Entriken is the County 4-H Youth Coordinator, her e-mail address is: entriken@iastate.edu
David Brown is the County Extension Education Director and his e-mail address is: browndn@iastate.edu
What is a project group?
4-H Shooting Sports will be one of our project areas offered to 4-H club members enrolled in the shooting sports project. The project meetings will be set up periodically with certified 4-H shooting sports leaders. Participants will have the opportunity to attend these meetings and extend their knowledge and skills. Once the 4-H’ers have learned these skills they may then have the opportunity if they so choose to participate in state and national competitions.
What shooting sport disciplines will be offered in Hamilton County?
At the present time we have trained instructors for the Shotgun and Rifle/Pellet Gun disciplines. The Iowa 4-H Shooting Sports program also offers Archery, Black Powder (muzzleloader) and Wildlife Skills, however Hamilton County does not have certified instructors in these disciplines at the present time. We are looking for volunteers to become certified instructors so we may offer these areas as well.
If you, or someone you know, is interested in becoming a certified instructor for Archery, Black Powder, or Wildlife Skills, please conact Cheryll, County Youth Coordinator (entriken@iastate.edu) or David, County Extension Education Director (browndn@iastate.edu) or by calling the Hamilton County ISU Extension Office at (515) 832-9597.
