Women Caring for the Land to be held in Waterloo April 10, 2013

Women who own or manage farmland in Butler, Bremer, Buchanan, Grundy, Black Hawk Tama or surrounding counties are invited to participate in a free conservation discussion at the Bremer County Extension office in Tripoli on April 4 or on April 10 at Hawkeye Community College, Tama Hall in Waterloo.  The program, sponsored by Women, Food and Agriculture Network (WFAN), is called Women Caring for the Land and focuses on risk management topics.  Meetings begin at 8:30 am and end at 2 pm at each site.  Lunch will be provided.

Women currently own or co-own over half the farmland in Iowa.  WFAN's program Women Caring for the Land offers a peer-to-peer, informal discussion format to allow women landowners to talk about your individual farm management goals, facilitated by both women conservationists and legal experts who will share information on leases, conservation programs, fencing and drainage law, and other risk management tools.

A woman landowner from Cherokee who attended a WCL meeting said, "If I'd have known it would be so interesting, I would've brought a lot of friends along."  Another woman from Chariton said, "Thank you for explaining things in a way I could understand."
