CHARITON, Iowa – The Lucas County office of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will hold a three-session course designed for women cattle operators during November. According to Joe Sellers, beef specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach, the "Women Managing Cattle" series is specifically designed to help women cattle operators learn more about marketing strategies, cattle management and managing land and water resources.

ADEL, Iowa – Workshops for commercial fruit and vegetable producers interested in or having just built a high tunnel are scheduled for this fall. The workshop series supported by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is designed by horticulture specialists and will be held on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 5 — Beyond the Basics: High Tunnels – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Heartland Acres Events Center, 2600 Swan Lake Boulevard, Independence. Prior attendance in the introductory class is recommended but not required.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 18 — Introduction to High Tunnels – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Cherry Glen Learning Farm, 3989 NW 94th Avenue, Polk City.

AMES, Iowa – Negotiating leases can be complicated, especially for farmers and land owners who are unsure of future grain prices, yields and government payments. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach’s Ag Decision Maker website has updated information on various types of leases and forms to make the process easier for farmers and renters.
