DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship today announced an order to cancel all live bird exhibitions at county fairs, the Iowa State Fair, and other gatherings of birds due to avian influenza. The Department’s order begins immediately, is effective through the end of 2015, and also prohibits live birds from being sold at livestock auction markets, swap meets and exotic sales.

Tama County Extension and Outreach seeks an Executive Director responsible for educational program planning & delivery, budget & facilities management, day to day supervision of staff. Coordinates programming in agriculture and natural resources, community & economic development, human sciences, & 4-H youth development in cooperation with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Responsible for marketing/public relations & networking with community organizations/ agencies. Reports to Tama County Extension and Outreach Council.

VINTON, Iowa -- Livestock producers wanting to maximize benefits from their grazing practices should attend Greenhorn Grazing workshops in northeast Iowa. Producers of all skill levels are welcome to the five-part workshop series, according to Denise Schwab, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach beef specialist.

DES MOINES – Emerald Ash Borer has been positively identified for the first time in Polk County, making this the 22nd county in Iowa where this invasive beetle has been found. EAB kills all ash tree species and is considered to be one of the most destructive tree pests ever seen in North America.
