Greene County Master Gardeners 11th Annual Plant Sale is scheduled for Friday, May 31st at the Commercial Building at the Greene County Fairgrounds from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.  Selections include: Perennials, Vegetables, Water Plants, Quality Tools, and other Garden items. Master Gardeners will be available to answer gardening questions.

The Master Gardener's Bus Tour has been scheduled for Saturday, June 1st  in Greene County.  You are invited to join the bus tour traveling through the beautiful scenery of western Iowa.  Our stops include:  The Harrison County Historical Village, Loess Hills Lavender Farm and Sawmill Hollow, which is the first Aronia Berry Farm in the country.  After a unique lunch at Sawmill Hollow we will travel to My Nest Greenhouse in Harlan, Ed & Nicki Wiederstein's "Prettiest Farm in Iowa" according to "Our Iowa" magazine, a rose garden in Gray and The Enchanted Gardens in Carroll.

The bus will load at 6:45 a.m. from the Greene County Extension Office, 104 W. Washington Street, Jefferson.  Please park behind the office.  Return time is approximately 7:00 p.m.

Price for the trip is $40.00.  After Monday, May 20th:  $50.00

"Garden Bounty - 2013 Garden Calendar" (PM 0815) is available for $6.00 from the ISU Extension and Outreach online store at www.extension.iastate.edu/store or at the Greene County Extension Office, 104 W. Washington St., Jefferson, IA.  This is the 35th edition of the ISU Extension and Outreach garden calendar.

The 2012 course will provide continuing instructional credit for commercial pesticide applicators certified in categories 7D (Community Insect Management), 8 (Public Health Pest Control) and 10 (Demonstration and Research).  The course will cover topics such as equipment calibration, safe application techniques and drift, pests and pest management, and pesticide labels.

Greene County Master Gardeners say they understand the frustrations that gardeners had with this year’s extremely dry summer, but they’re looking toward next year and bringing in a free guest speaker to talk about steps to take this fall and next spring when planting a garden following a drought.
