Career Fair for Greene County High School Students
Greene County Extension is helping to plan the 2013 Greene County High School Career Fair. On Thursday, October 17th, GCHS students will have an opportunity to take part in this year's event. Ken Paxton, Executive Director from the Greene County Chamber of Commerce, and Michael Cooley, ISU County Extension Coordinator for Greene County, have teamed up with the high school’s career and technical teachers to organize this event.
The Thursday afternoon event will rotate students between three 30-minute panel presentations including entrepreneurship, career preparation, and major employers. The Entrepreneur panel includes Cail Calder, who started a bee keeping business; Bret Cranston, owner of Jefferson sports restaurant, Doc's Stadium; and Cindy Schieber from the Iowa Small Business Development Center. Serving on the Career Preparation panel are Kyle Bangert from Iowa Central Community College and Sherry Vaughn of Iowa Workforce Development. Major Employers will have two panels: Panel I includes Jim Daubendiek of Jefferson Telecom, Sid Jones of Home State Bank, and Mark Lane of American Athletic/Spaulding and Panel II with Carl Behne of Greene County Medical Center, Jim Ober of Scranton Manufacturing, and Travis Warnke of B&D Manufacturing.
Providing exposure to career opportunities, learning more about Greene County employers, career readiness and planning, and post-high school education and training are all goals of the Career Fair. Students who actively participate in the career fair will have their names entered into a drawing to win four $50 chamber bucks.
