Market beef weigh-in will take place on Sunday (new day!), December 20 from 1-4:30 pm (new time!) in the showring on the Greene County Fairgrounds.
Youth who plan to exhibit ONLY at the Greene County Fair next summer will weigh in first from 1-2:30 pm (be in line by 2:00). Youth who need additional identification in order to be eligible for exhibition at the Iowa State Fair or Ak-Sar-Ben will weigh in between 2:30-4:30 pm (be in line by 4:00).
If you are unable to attend, please contact Amanda Allen at 515/386-2138 or allenama@iastate.edu. She will help you find another county weigh-in to attend and get you set up with all of the necessary forms and information.
Things to keep in mind...
- Market beef animals that you would like to be eligible for exhibition at the Greene County Fair must be weighed, tagged, and identified on December 20. There will be a fee for all tags of $1.50 per ear tag.
- Return Bucket Calves that you may want to exhibit at the Greene County Fair must also be weighed, tagged and identified on December 20. Any market calves that do not come to the weigh-in will not be eligible for exhibition at the Greene County Fair.
- Any market beef animals that you want to be eligible for the Iowa State Fair and/or Ak-Sar-Ben need to complete the verification process on December 20. State fair animals will be identified by retinal imaging. For Ak-Sar-Ben, a DNA hair sample will be collected. There will be a separate fee for each show you identify an animal for. The fee for Iowa State Fair nomination is $5/head. The fee for Ak-Sar-Ben nomination is $5/head. If you nominate the same animal for both shows, the total nomination fee will be $10.
- Exhibitor and parent signatures are requied on county and state forms. If the parent and/or the exhibitor is unable to be present with their animal at the weigh-in, then a waiver form MUST be signed and brought with the animal. Waivers are available at the extension office.
