Greene County Extension will present a 2014 Farm Bill Program Overview meeting on Tuesday, December 16th. Private Pesticide Applicator Training will follow in the afternoon.

Greene County 4-H’ers and volunteers will be recognized for their achievements and contributions at the annual Greene County 4-H Awards Ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, November 2, at 2:00 p.m. at the Greene County High School Auditorium.  The public is welcome to attend.

Enrollment Open
September 29, 2014

Enrollment and re-enrollment is now open for the Greene County 4-H program.  The 4-H program is a national one that empowers young people in grades 4th through 12th to reach their full potential through working and learning in partnership with caring adults.   Interested youth can join Greene County 4-H by visiting the ISU Extension and Outreach – Greene County office to complete initial enrollment paperwork and to learn more about 4-H club options available to join to become an active member.  Greene County 4-H currently has ten active organizational clubs that meet across the county, including meeting sites in Jefferson, Grand Junction, Scranton, Churdan, and Rippey.

An ISU Extension and Outreach financial management course will begin in early October for individuals and couples interested in taking charge of their money.  The Money Talk program, a 5-course series by Greene County Extension, will be held on Mondays beginning October 6 and running through November 3 at the Greene County Extension office meeting room.  Sessions will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Click here to find 4-H record keeping forms and help sheets, as well as award applications! In order to be considered for any county awards, all record keeping and award applications must be turned in to the extension office by Tuesday, September 15th.

The Master Conservationist program, a series of ten sessions for participants to learn more about contributing to environmental sustainability, is being offered jointly by Greene and Boone County Extension this year, set to begin in June.  The series of outdoor and indoor meetings is intended for individuals to get hands-on experiences and share an interest in the sustainability of Iowa’s natural resources, while also discovering tools they can use to become better stewards and advocates of those resources.  Greene and Boone County Conservation, as well as Keep Boone County Beautiful/Boone County Landfill, are also partnering sponsor organizations for the program.

The Greene County Master Gardeners are again bringing a local gardening celebrity to Greene County for their annual public presentation to take place on Tuesday, April 29th, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson.  Kelly D. Norris, the first horticulture manager at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden will present Building a New Botanical Garden, where he will highlight the recent renovation and revitalization of the 14-acre facility, including new plants and features at the site.

Greene County Extension and Outreach and the Jefferson Tree Committee are bringing two meetings about the emerald ash borer to Greene County on April 28, one meeting targeting the general public, and a second specialized meeting for elected officials and public/municipal employees in the county.

A second date has been added for free tax preapation services at Greene County Extension. Appointments are being reserved on Saturday, March 8th. The service is part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
