The annual Pro-Ag Outlook and Management regional meetings sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach are set to happen in November, with two local options for interested Greene County participants.

Two upcoming workshops related to raising and teaching children are being sponsored by Greene County Extension for child care providers, teachers, as well as parents. One workshop will focus on building quality relationships with children, while the other will help participants learn the importance of modeling healthy behaviors for kids. Each workshop is eligible for two hours of licensing credits for child care providers.

Women involved in farm operations can learn more about risk management on the farm and value-added agriculture opportunities at an upcoming workshop series sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Beginning October 29, sessions will be held every Monday evening at the Des Moines Area Community College, Room 219 in Boone, from 6 to 9 p.m. through December 3.

The 2012 course will provide continuing instructional credit for commercial pesticide applicators certified in categories 7D (Community Insect Management), 8 (Public Health Pest Control) and 10 (Demonstration and Research).  The course will cover topics such as equipment calibration, safe application techniques and drift, pests and pest management, and pesticide labels.

The 2012 course will provide continuing instructional credits for commercial and public pesticide applicators certified in categories 2 (Forest Pest Control), 5 (Aquatic Pest Control), 6 (Right of Way Pest Control) and 10 (Demonstration and Research).  Topics to be covered are equipment calibration and safe application techniques, and pesticide labels, pesticide stewardship, aquatic weeds, poison hemlock/wild parsnip, invasive forest pest update and waterfowl managment.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers Series starts on Thursdays, from October 18th through November 29th from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (skipping Thanksgiving Thursday), at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson and is open to the public.

Greene County Master Gardeners say they understand the frustrations that gardeners had with this year’s extremely dry summer, but they’re looking toward next year and bringing in a free guest speaker to talk about steps to take this fall and next spring when planting a garden following a drought.
