Waubonsie 4-H Horse Camp

The Waubonsie 4-H Horse Camp will be held June 6-8, 2008 in Sidney, Iowa.

Horse Camp is for 4-H’ers of all ages who have a horse, who like to ride and who like to have fun while improving their riding skills and equine knowledge. 4-H youth are welcomed from SW Iowa and surronding counties in Missouri & Nebraska. Camp is open to any 4-H youth with a great attitude and a smile!

What will camp include?

  • Riding instruction for all skill levels
  • Three separate arenas enclosed inside the large Sidney Iowa Rodeo Arena to ensure a safe riding environment
  • Clinicians to instruct reining, horsemanship, and English
  • Education clinics
  • Square nutritious meals from the food shack
  • Off the saddle downtime fun with camper friends and pool party
  • Horse stall and tack area
  • 24 hour adult supervision
  • Camp T-Shirt

 

Horse camp will include a light snack on Friday night, breakfast, lunch and supper on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. For Sunday lunch parents will bring a covered dish dinner and table service for the family. We'll put all the food together for a big family potluck dinner followed by a recognition ceremony. To wrap up camp, there will be a program at the arena where campers will demonstrate their newly acquired horse knowledge and riding skills while parents will get an opportunity to have fun also! 

 

Check in will be Friday, June 6, 6:00 p.m. at the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Sidney. Camp will conclude on Sunday afternoon by 4:00 p.m. Camp program.

 

Adult volunteer helping hands are welcome and encouraged to make camp run smoothly and provide a wonderful experience for youth. If you would like to be a part of it, please contact our office.

 

Parents/guardians are welcome to stay for the weekend for $10 to help cover meal costs. Camping hookups (30 amp) are also available for $10/night for those who want to camp should the dormitory style (concrete floor) not be suitable. Waubonsie State Park offers fabulous trail riding just 6 miles away for parents who simply want to get-a-way during the day.

New This Year-Camp Counselor Positions

We are seeking motivated 4-Hers (age 16 up) who are experienced horsemen to lead and mentor young people. Camp is such a great experience and you can play a very important role in making this summer’s Waubonsie 4-H Horse Camp a wonderful memory for the small group of young people under your leadership.

 

You will make lasting friendships with your fellow counselors and really enjoy the late night talks with your campers as they look to you as their leader and mentor. This opportunity is available to all Senior 4-H members who are 16 or older in time for camp.
