PROSPER

Hampton-Dumont PROSPER, a federally funded research project,  begins its 8th year with the 2 evidence based programs annually offered.  7th and 8th grade students take part in Project ALERT in school, an age-appropriate substance abuse prevention curriculum proven effective in reducing experimentation among teens, and in reducing usage among teens who experiment.

Fifth and sixth grade students and their parents will have the opportunity to participate in the 2010 Strengthening Families Program.  This nationally recognized program is aimed at helping students become responsible young adults.  The program will be held once a week for 7 weeks beginning in January.  Watch this website for the date and location.

Parents and youth meet separately for the first hour, and spend the next hour as a family unit.  Youth sessions focus on strengthening positive dreams and goals for the future, learning to take responsibility, and building skills to deal with peer pressure.  Parent sessions include:  having a positive influence on young teens, dealing effectively with teens in day to day living, setting appropriate limits, following through with consequences, and sharing beliefs and expectations regarding alcohol and drug use.  Family sessions offer opportunities to practice positive communication, identify family strengths and values, solve problems, and have fun together as a family.

The program is free to participating families and will also be offered in Spanish.  Parents can sign up at Parent-Teacher conferences in November, or may contact the Franklin County Extension office at 456-4811 or Stephanie Bochman at the H-D Middle School at 456-4735. Information will also be sent to all 5th and 6th grade families.

Registration forms:  English & Spanish
