Scavenger Hunt Ideas

Hi all -

Do any of you have scavenger hunt questions for your fairgrounds that you could share or possibly just random questions that you can think of? The 4H Comm would like to use scavenger hunt questions to help familiarize the juniors with the fairgrounds. We are looking for questions that require an answer so that we know that they have been there. Please feel free to share anything that you can think of. Thanks

We found a great community service scavenger hunt. During a County Council Meeting or Leadership time, break kids into groups and send out with a basic community service list, a piece of paper and a pencil. On the list are several things they can do. They must accomplish 10 items on the list and they have 1 1/2 hours to do it. By going door to door they can make a difference in the lives of others.

* Change a lightbulb for someone and have them sign your paper
* Take out someone's trash and have them sign your paper
* Sweep someone's front porch or sidewalk and get your paper signed
* Sing a Happy Unbirthday song to someone at their home and get your paper signed
* etc
You get the picture. It's obviously easier in a small town because everyone is pretty familiar. Remind kids to wear the 4H shirts too!
We also like to handout something 4H at each house as well. Just a balloon or lanyard or something to say thanks for helping us serve!

I just created a scavenger hunt for my county fair. Each day a new form is posted outside our fair office for the kids to work on. They can turn it in when they are done and if they have all of the answers right their name is put into a drawing for some prizes. If they get the answers right for all four days their name also goes into a separate drawing for some larger prizes. Each day we have a different theme:

Day 1: Pictures - There will be pictures hung up in the different barns. They have to find the pictures and figure out what nursery rhyme they are from.

Day 2: People - The kids will have to write down who is the staff person in the fair office and the time they were in there, obtain the signatures of 3 YCC members, and find 6 kids from clubs that are different from theirs.

Day 3: Numbers - Questions include - How many pens are in the sheep barn, what year did Amy Kelly start working for Extension, how many people are on the Youth County Council, etc. At the end the numbers are entered into an equation that tells them how many kids are in 4-H (that answer is posted in our 4-H Exhibit Bldg.)

Day 4: Words - The kids have to fill in the blanks, there is one letter in each answer that has a box around it. The kids have to unscramble the letters in the boxes to spell out a word at the bottom.

If anyone would like to see the forms, let me know and I will gladly share them!

We are putting together a scavenger hunt for a local fair in Wash. state. I would love to see your ideas if you wouldn't mind sharing.

Here are some questions we used a few years ago:
1. How many seats are on the Ferris wheel?
2. Write the name of one of the owners of a lamb in the sheep barn.
3. How many 4-H clubs are there in the 4-H Building?
4. What is the cost of a funnel cake?
5. Find the State Patrol office and pick up some of their literature.
6. What does the heaviest 4-H steer weigh?
7. Go into the Antique Building and name the antique of the day.
8. Walk through the Open Class building and write down three different vegetables that are exhibited.
9. Name one of the plants on display in the flower building.
10. Describe your favorite art work in the open class art show.
11. Check out the open class kids’ hobbies and describe your favorite one.
12. How many pens of pigs do the Fulton Jr. Farmers have in the hog barn?
13. Which 4-H club won 1st prize in the booth decorating contest?
14. How many dairy cows are in the dairy barn?
15. Get the fair queen’s signature.

I've seen many scavenger hunts that go throughout the fair that ask questions like "who won the grand champion hog," "what is the name of the junior champion registered holstein?" I know in Delaware County, the kids who are hosts in the exhibit building write the questions for the hunt. You could ask questions like "what is the name of the building that houses the horses?

I would also be very interested in scavenger hunt ideas. I am working on a project for the fall to do as a recruitment tool.
