Christmas Tree Fertilization
May 2012 - Three sites were selected in early fall 2011, seedlings were planted in early spring 2012 and weather stations were installed in early May 2012. Seedling survival and growth will be followed during the establishment year.
November 2012 - What a year, the drought has destroyed almost every first year christmas tree seedling in the state. our entire study was destroyed by the extreme weather (heat and lack of moisture) during the summer of 2012. all seedlings will be replanted in the spring of 2013. stay tuned as we are downloading the weater station data from the three partner farms and we will make the summary data available on this site.
November 2013 - all seedlings were replanted in the spring of 2013 and another drought in 2013 killed 30-50 percent of all seedlings. We have decuded to move forward and will begin the fertilizer trial in spring of 2014.
November 2014- seedlings received the first round of fertilizer in spring of 2014 and have been measured for survival,growth, and tip dieback. The second fertilizer treatment will occur in spring 2015
