Cook at home

Cooking at home can save money and improve nutrition. Plus making a great meal for family or friends can be very satisfying. One way to save money is to use up what you have on hand.  That’s what the Create Series is all about. Utah State University Food Sense produced this video and handouts to help you learn how to put together various dishes. 


Create a Soup
Create a tasty soup for 4 from simple foods you have on hand. Just choose an item from each category and follow the directions.

Create a Casserole
Create a tasty casserole from simple foods. Select a food from each category or use your own favorites. Combine all ingredients except toppings in a 9x13 pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350˚ F until bubbly (30-45 minutes). Add toppings and return to oven for about 10 minutes.

Create a Pizza
Prepare homemade whole whet crust and set aside to rise. Preheat oven to 425ºF. Prepare sauce and toppings. Spray baking pan or pizza pan with cooking spray. Roll crust out and place on pan. Top with sauce and toppings. Bake approximately 10-12 minutes or until crust is cooked and sauce is bubbly.

Easy quick ideas to create a dessert from the fruit you have on hand. Select fruit and preparation method. Follow instructions for desired method. The options and combinations are truly endless, so use your creativity in putting the fruity dessert together and the whole family is sure to enjoy your creation.
