Iowa State University Extension and Outreach campus and field specialists offer a number of training courses to help educate food handlers in food processing and foodservice establishments serve safe food to their customers.
We are proud to partner with the Iowa Restaurant Association (ServSafe®) to provide these programs:
ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification Course
For restaurants and foodservice managers, ServSafe® is the food safety certification course developed by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation and is one of several recognized by the Conference on Food Protection. The 8-hour course concludes with a certification exam. Iowa regulations require the person in charge of a foodservice to have demonstrated knowledge of food safety principles; ServSafe® certification is one way to demonstrate this knowledge. Certificates are valid for five years. Participants receive a coursebook.
A 2-hour course for restaurant and foodservice employees that covers fundamental food safety information. The workshop can be tailored to specific needs of the operation. Participants receive educational materials and a thermometer. Registration fee varies between $25 and $35 per person.
