Modifications of fish-management/husbandry practices offer most possibilities for potential to reduce of fish predation.

Options
  • Deepening ponds/raceways to a minimum of 3 feet and maintaining steep banks to reduce wading activities
  • Delay moving the fingerlings outside in the spring
  • Reduced stocking levels may lessen the attractiveness of ponds to depredating birds
  • Removal of dead fish
  • Feed sinking pellets to lessen the time the fish spend at the surface
  • Additional aeration may help to improve dissolved oxygen levels thus keeping fish down from the surface
