Dairy producers interested in utilized robotic milking systems on their farm are encouraged to attend this year’s Midwest Dairy School on Maximizing Robotic Milking Systems on November 13. This year the Midwest Dairy School will provide you with more in-depth information on robotic milking systems specifically with research and nutrition.

On Thursday, September 25, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and University of Minnesota Extension will jointly host a field day tour in SE MN focusing on nutrient management and methods to handle sand.  Discussions will focus on nutrient management including various options and methods to manage total farm nutrient balance, manure management, and nutrient runoff.  Managing nutrients from manure is becoming a high priority among most livestock farmers for economic and environmental reasons.

The number of cover crop acres has increased dramatically over the past five years in Iowa — from less than 10,000 acres in 2009 to about 300,000 acres this fall.  One Iowa farmer who is helping to increase that number is Joe Kriegel who farms and grows cover crops on more than 2,000 acres in Poweshiek County with his three sons, Patrick, Nicholas, and Jared.  Read how he is seeing more benefits than just erosion control.
