“Learn By Doing” is an integral part of 4-H, but there is more to Experiential Learning than just “doing”. Eighteen supportive, caring adult club leaders from Fayette County recently joined together at the Extension Office for the annual 2013 Experiential Learning training to learn more on ways to help youth move beyond the “doing” to reflect on and apply the learning experience to similar or different situations. By practicing and utilizing the Experiential Learning model, volunteers will be able to help youth look back at their experience, determine what will be useful or important to remember, and apply the new information to real life situations.

Volunteers and staff will work together to make sure Experiential Learning is included in future 4-H programming – whether it is a club meeting, a camping trip, an afterschool program, a Clover Kids program, a project workshop, or any other fun, learning experience designed for and with 4-H youth.

On Monday, April 1 the round barn at the Fayette County Fairgrounds saw a new addition, as 79 new poultry cages were installed.  Chris Palmersheim, Strawberry Point, built the cages and was assisted by several 4-H & FFA members and their families in getting the cages installed.

Donations from local individuals, businesses, 4-H clubs and monies received from a Pioneer Grant helped cover a good portion of the expense to upgrade these cages.  A sign of all donors, who helped make this project a reality, will be seen hanging in the rabbit and poultry barn at the Fayette County Fairgrounds during fair week, July 23-27.  A big thank you goes out to everyone who contributed and helped install the cages on this brisk April morning.
