Problem:
Child care center directors in NW Iowa face a variety of challenges. Over the past 5 years directors have expressed their feeling of stress, frustration and feeling of being out there without any support network.

Response:
CCR&R, Empowerment and Extension formed a committee to host a one day director’s retreat where we would discuss the idea of setting up a support group in NW Iowa. The retreat was held in May and directors discussed their successes and challenges of running their centers and what their future goals might be. The committee facilitated the group discussion centering around whether they would like to form a support group.

Impact:
Directors brainstormed to see what a support group would look like and suggestions for future meeting topics. In summary of the day’s discussion the directors decided to meet quarterly- rotate meeting location- having each center take turns in setting the agenda. The planning committee will meet with the directors one more time to give them support in getting the support group started.
