ChildNet in Spanish helping Hispanic Population

Problem:
Hispanic ladies who became registered as child care providers in 2007 after taking ChildNet in Spanish, were concerned because they had to renew their In-Home Child Care Provider registration, and another group wanted to become registered for the first time. As registered providers they need 12 hours of training every year. At least six hours of this training has to be in a group setting. It is hard for them to find training in their own language.

Response:
ISUE, Woodbury County, in partnership with Region I Child Care Resource and Referral, offered ChildNet in Spanish. We had eight participants, who came to the 10 classes, two hours and thirty minutes each class. Classes were held at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City and child care was provided.

Impact:
People (3) who were already registered refreshed their knowledge about child development, policies, and insurance for their businesses. New participants (5) sent their applications to become registered . All of them received information about the Quality Rating System in Iowa.
