Extension to Families
Success Stories
Problem:
Child Adult Care Food Program Directors seek to provide reliable, research based nutrition training for child care providers. Providing nutritious foods economically is a priority. The current economic climate has made this priority even more challenging.
Response:
In response to a request from the Child Adult Care Food Program Director for an in-service trainng for Family Day Care Providers, the Family Nutrition and Health Food Specialist presented a 2 hour training based on 2 extension programs, SpendSmart. EatSmart. and Healthy Meals in a Hurry. The presentation included a powerpoint, clientele participation and sharing of Extension publications. 8 providers, 1 program director and 1 program assistant (extension council member) attended.
Impact:
July 22, 2009 Dear _____ ~ I wanted to let you know how pleased I was with your class in Albia on Spend Smart Eat Smart. All participants turned evaluations with a rating of 5 out of 5. I could tell during the class the providers were enjoying your presentation and enjoyed the opportunity to share information. During home visits, I have been observing the providers utilizing the resources and information provided at Spend Smart Eat Smart class. The providers have been sharing with me how they have changed their spending habits. I was impressed how you made the class relevant to my providers and taught them without making them feel silly for not knowing the information. Thank you once again for doing such a wonderful job. Sincerely, Child Adult Care Food Program Director South Central Iowa Community Action Program 1403 NW Church St. Leon, IA 50144 641-446-4155 ext 227
