Success Stories
Problem:
Individuals need to look at plans of wills, estate planning, living will and medical power of attorney. What is the right choice for me? When individuals look at these issues, it can be an emotional roller coaster.
Response:
The Family Resource Managerment Field Specialist participated in a senior health fair. During the 3-hour fair attended by 250, she spoke at length with 60 individuals on wills, medical power of attorney, and estate planning issues. One participant commented that in the past, when asked about her will, she "just put the form in a drawer and hoped for the best." Another participant said, "This is good information. I have a will, but have not thought about these other issues before." One organized woman said she had the information with the funeral home and her children.
Impact:
A lot of individuals said they were going to get together with their children over Memorial Day weekend and now felt they could share the information with their families. Some assumed their children knew the name and contact info of their attorney, but now were not sure. Opening up the door for communication with families is the key.
