Success Stories
Problem:
Common soft skills that employers seek in an employee are an absolute necessity for anyone entering the workplace, especially for individuals who have multiple barriers to employment. With employee tension growing as a major business and financial issue for employers, it is even more critical that employees know how to handle their emotions, communicate well, use critical thinking and know how to function effectively in the workplace, including balancing work and family.
Response:
Workplace Essentials 2006 was created through a partnership of agencies that included the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS), Iowa Workforce Development (IWD), and Iowa State University Extension, (ISUE).
Impact:
Several Workplace Essentials 2006 classes were held at the Alcohol and Drug Dependency Center , Southeast Iowa Community Action In-Service, Morning Sun Care Center , and the Nest, and 190 people attended at least two hours of training. Employers and organizations were very appreciative of the classes and felt the participants learned vital information necessary for meeting challenges at work. Participants' comments were positive and survey results showed an increase in participants' knowledge.
