Food Safety Works

Problem:
According to public health and food safety experts, millions of people become infected by a foodbourne illness. Foodbourne illness is often caused from improper handling of food.

Response:
The Nutrition and Health Field Specialist presented a workshop for food service workers in one of the school districts in Clinton . The information focused on proper hand washing, time and temperature controls, and overview of pathogens.

Impact:
A 6 month survey was sent to the 25 participants. Participants were asked the following:

Rate your food handling practices before training. 28% reported extremely safe and current 100% reported extremely safe.

As a direct result of the presentation, what changes did you make in your food handling practices?

  • Make sure I record the temperature of food correctly, not just guess.
  • Wash my hands longer. Used to wet, soap and rinse and back to work.
  • More careful about cross contamination.
